iRefone for Windows User Guide

iRefone provides you with 3 ways to retrieve lost data: scan your iOS devices, extract your iTunes backup files, download and recover data from iCloud backup. You can choose any of them to get your previous data backup by following the guide in steps below.

Notes: When losing data, please stop using your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch immediately. Any operation can generate new data to overwrite the lost data. Also don't sync them with iTunes or back them up to iCloud, or the backup file will be updated and be the same as your device. Then you'll lose your previous backup.

Part 1: Recover Lost Files Directly from iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

This mode helps you to scan your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to recover lost data, including camera roll, photo library, text messages, iMessage, WhatsApp history, contacts, call history, notes, reminder, calendar, Safari bookmarks and more.

Step 1. Connect your iOS device to the computer

After installing and launching the program, connect your device to the computer. When the program detects your device, you'll see the following window.

Tips: If you use an iPhone 4/3GS, iPad 1 or iPod Touch 4, you can also start the scanning of your device by clicking on the "Advanced Mode" button.

Step 2. Scanning your iOS device for lost data

Now click on the "Start" button to begin scanning your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. During the scan, make sure that your device is connected well and don't disconnect it for any reason, or you need to start over.

Step 3 Preview and get back lost data from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

After scanning, found data on your iOS device will be shown according to file types. You can preview them one by one so as to check how much of your lost data can be recovered. Then you can mark files you need and click the ??Recover?? button to save them to your computer.

Note: You can enable ??Only display deleted items?? in the window to check deleted files only.

Tips: iRefone supports to transfer recovered Notes, Contacts directly back to device. After scanning these two items, pick out these notes or contacts you need and click "Recover to Device" button on the interface to transfer these recovered Notes and Contacts directly back to your device. You can also edit notes and contacts and save the modified data.

Part 2: Recover Data from iTunes Backup Files

This solution works well for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models. It lets you extract and access to the iTunes backup file of all your iOS device on your computer. Then you can get whatever you want from it. There??s no need for you to connect your iOS device with the computer when using this solution.

Note: Don't sync your device with iTunes when you realize that you've lost data, or the iTunes backup file will be updated after the sync, if you want to recover them through this recovery mode.

Step 1. Select your iTunes backup and extract it

Run iRefone on the computer, Choose "Recover from iTunes Backup" on the main interface. All the iTunes backup files of your iOS Device which has ever synced with iTunes on this computer will be automatically found and listed here. You can choose the one you want and click "Select" to access the data interface.

Tips: If your iOS device backup is not displayed here, it's probably because your iOS device has not synced with iTunes on this computer or you save the backup in other location. You can click "Select more" button to choose the backup by yourself.

Step 2. Preview the data in iTunes Backup

Then you will enter into the interface to show you all the data categories in your backup. Select the data you want to preview. The scanning time depends on the database in your iTunes Backup. You can preview them one by one before recovery.

Step 3. Recover iTunes Backup data

When the scanning is finished, you can selectively mark and recover those you want by click the "Recover to PC" button on the bottom-right to save them on your computer.

Tips: iRefone supports to transfer recovered Notes, Contacts directly back to device. After scanning these two items, pick out these notes or contacts you need and click "Recover to Device" button on the interface to transfer these recovered Notes and Contacts directly back to your device. You can also edit notes and contacts and save the modified data.

Part 3: Download and Recover Data from iCloud Backup Files

Just like iTunes backup files, Apple doesn't allow anyone to access iCloud backup files, either, unless you restore it entirely to your iOS device. Brorsoft iRefone lets you download and extract your iCloud backup content, so that you can get what you want from it one by one.

Step 1. Sign in iCloud

Run iRefone and choose "Recover from iCloud Backup" as the recovery mode. Then you'll see the window below. Enter your iCloud account and password to login.

Note: iRefone takes your privacy seriously. We never keep a record of any your Apple account info or content at any time during your sessions.

Step 2. Download and scan your iCloud backup

When you logged into iCloud, the program can find all iCloud backup files in your account. Choose the one where you're going to recover data and click on the "Download" button.

And then in the pop-up window, you can choose the type of files you would like to download. This will reduce the time of downloading the iCloud backup file. After that, you can scan the iCloud content now. Click on the "Next" button to begin. It will take you some time. Just wait for a moment.

Step 3. Preview and Recover data from iCloud Backup

The scan will be complete in a few minutes. Once it stops, you can click the icon of the data you need in your iCloud backup file, like contacts, messages, photos, and more. Check them one by one and tick the item you want. Then click on the "Recover to PC" to save them on your computer with one click.
