As an owner of an old iPhone 4s/5/5s, you may choose to get a relatively new iPhone like iPhone 6s for better using experience. And if you got a new iPhone 6s, how to move text messages from old iPhone to the new one is a useful trick to know. This article looks at how to transfer text messages from old iPhone to new iPhone 6s in detail.
Text messages are contained within the iCloud backup. So you can use iCloud backup to transfer and restore all your text messages from one iPhone to another.
1. Connect the old iPhone to a power source and turn on Wi-Fi.
2. On the old iPhone tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
3. Turn on iCloud Backup.
4. Tap Back Up Now (and wait for the backup process to complete).
5. Turn on your new iPhone. If you haven't done so already, you'll need to go through the setup process. When asked, tap Restore from iCloud Backup and Next. If you have already been through the setup process, you'll need to reset your iPhone. Tap on Settings > General > Reset and > Erase All Content and Settings.
6. Enter your Apple ID and Password.
Your new iPhone now displays all your messages from the old iPhone, along with all your other apps, photos, emails and other app data.
Note: As you see, you can use iCloud backup to transfer and restore all your text messages from one iPhone to another. However, not only texts, some other content you may not need can also be restored. If you want to upload text messages from old iPhone to iPhone 6s on Mac OS X, you can get iRefone for Mac to finish the task.
Note: Before transferring old iPhone messages to new one, you have to back up your old iPhone with iTunes, and then, follow the simple steps below.
Step 1. Run iRefone
Start iRefone, then choose Recover from iTunes Backup mode. All iTunes backup files will be listed and you need to select the iTunes backup for your old iPhone.
Step 2. Scan messages from iTunes backup
iRefone supports selectively exporting data of certain category and you can choose messages to exports selectively simply clicking on the icon of Messages.
Step 3. Preview and choose messages to transfer
After scanning, you can have a view at those messages and then, select them, click Recover to PC button to transfer those messages to your computer.
Editor's Note: What you can't do, unfortunately, is copy these messages back into the iPhone's Messages app. You can, however, copy them to a compatible app to view them. You can email them to yourself or use iTunes File Sharing to copy the files across.
